Exciting New Partnership Brings New Dimension to Free Family Concert
On August 15th, the Portland Chamber Music Festival (PCMF) will collaborate with the Peekaboo Children’s Center to present a free event at the Abromson Center that will bring activities and music to families in the Greater Portland area as part of the festival’s 17th season.
The event will begin with an activity hour at 11 am hosted by the Peekaboo Children’s Center. This will be followed by the PCMF’s annual Children’s Concert at 12 noon. The concert features narrator Suzanne Nance of MPBN Radio and PCMF’s Resident Performers. Highlights will include a performance by Karim Al-Zand’s “Red Pajamas,” a work based on “She’ll be Comin’ Round the Mountain.”
Join us we celebrate our 17th season with five captivating and imaginative concerts by our distinguished performers. This year's roster includes current and former members of the Vermeer, Arditti, and FLUX String Quartets; the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Orpheus Ensemble; and faculty members at the New England Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, and other renowned institutions.
We open our seventeenth season with a colorful showcase of instrumental brilliance. Featured works include Ravel’s stunning Introduction and Allegro alongside pieces by Ibert and Dan Sonenberg of the University of Southern Maine faculty.
We are delighted present the work of Grammy Award-winning Chinese composer Chen Yi, the first woman in China to receive a Masters Degree in composition, and the recipient of numerous awards and great critical acclaim.
