Dear friends,

A century ago, Gustav Mahler said, “In its beginnings, music was merely chamber music, meant to be listened to in a small space by a small audience.” In the current moment, even the small spaces and small audiences of this intimate art form are beyond reach.

We regretfully announce that the 27th summer season of the Portland Chamber Music Festival will not take place as originally envisioned, August 6-15 at Hannaford Hall. The health and safety of our artists, audience, staff, and community come first. While we are deeply disappointed to have to make this decision, our thoughts are with everyone on the front lines fighting this pandemic, and our hearts are with all who are struggling in its wake.

Despite the current uncertainty, we remain committed to our mission of bringing great chamber music to southern Maine, and will do so again as soon as it is practical and safe. As the ground continues to shift and possibilities evolve, we will adjust and announce our plans to connect PCMF’s family of artists with our community. Please keep in touch by signing up for our email list and following PCMF on Facebook, Instagram, SoundCloud and YouTube, and know that we are deeply grateful for your support during this challenging time.

We wish peace and good health to you and yours, and the strength, solace, and joy of great music.
