April 16, 2020
Just a few short weeks ago, as we were putting the final touches on our 2020 season announcement, it became increasingly clear that our world was changing, and we decided to postpone the release. Now, as we inhabit this in-between time, we turn to our mission for guidance and inspiration:
The Portland Chamber Music Festival enhances the cultural life of Southern Maine by bringing internationally renowned artists to Portland to perform a wide range of innovative classical and contemporary chamber music, including education and engagement programs for community members of all ages.
Our planned season includes both beloved returning artists and charismatic new voices, and we are still hopeful that we may be able to present their passionate energy, enthusiasm, and thrillingly dynamic musicianship to you at the 27th annual August Festival and fall concerts.
At this time, it is clear that in order to protect the health and safety of our musicians and patrons, we must postpone our May 20 “Springtime Brahms” concert, and our Annual Spring Benefit, scheduled for June 7 at the Black Point Inn.
We are continually evaluating the situation, and anticipate updating you regarding the status of the August Festival by June 1. In the meantime, we are holding off on putting events on sale, or announcing any rescheduled dates, while we consider meaningful interim ways to connect PCMF’s family of artists with our community.
PCMF has always had a “virtual” office, with minimal expenses beyond our people—staff and musicians. Please consider helping our organization through this challenging time by maintaining your philanthropic support, or by making a gift in lieu of ticket purchase.
What makes the Portland Chamber Music Festival truly special is the intimate connection among musicians and audience, and the shared experience of inspiring performances and visionary, innovative programs. We look forward to the day when we can again come together and enjoy great music with you.
Wishing peace and good health to you and yours,
President, Board of Directors
We want to hear from you!
