27  Summer Festival

th

Program IV: Sonic Bloom

Saturday, August 15 at 7:30 PM

Hannaford Hall, 88 Bedford St, Portland

The East Coast Chamber Orchestra brings maximum impact to an intimate art form with a boisterous Mozart Divertimento, Bruch’s lushly gorgeous Octet, and the gripping intensity of Schoenberg’s WWII-inspired “stand against tyranny.” Finales don’t get much grander than a “playful, audience-pleasing arrangement” of La Follia variations, “already a showcase for Baroque display, [that takes on] contemporary techniques, jazzy harmonies, subtle percussion and exuberant stomps” (New York Times).

W.A. Mozart Divertimento in D Major, K.136

Max Bruch Octet in Bb Major, Op posth

Arnold Schoenberg Ode to Napoleon, Op. 41 for string quartet, piano and reciter

Francesco Geminiani La Follia Variations for string orchestra (arr. Michi Wiancko)
