“Bach Along the Silk Road” is a musical meditation on the ancient trade route via Johnny Gandelsman’s singular talent for reinventing and reimagining music of the classical canon. This program pairs arguably the lightest and darkest works Bach ever wrote for a string instrument, with three brand new works written for Johnny in 2019. Just as Bach did in his time, Akshaya Tucker, Dana Lyn, and Layale Chaker expand the possibilities of expression using solo violin as their canvas.

The Grammy award-winning violinist and producer—founder of the genre-defying string quartet Brooklyn Rider and member of the Silkroad Ensemble, whose solo debut recording of the complete Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin reached #1 on the Billboard Classical Chart—adds rich layers to the music of Bach and beyond, exploring the connections and transcendent beauty that can be found (rather than lost) in translation.
